We present three books devoted to the War in Ukraine, told from the perspective of personal essay and memoir.
We are adding further volumes from Andrey Kurkov’s series of wartime memoirs to our collection of his books.
In March this year, Natolin College of Europe hosted a meeting with the author on campus, where were presented several of Kurkov’s books from our collection, including the first volume of his memoirs. In the second volume, Diary of an Invasion, and the third, Three Years on Fire, Kurkov once again sketches the lives of ordinary people amid the horrors of war. Using his characteristic dark humour, he commemorates the courage of Ukrainians and their need to preserve the rituals of everyday life in a world that is falling apart.
In the book Strong Roots. a Ukrainian Family Story, Interrupted, Olia Hercules tells the story of four generations of her family. Through memories of food, smells, and family gatherings, she shows how ordinary people preserve their traditions and their sense of home in difficult times. The book is a story about family, memory, and belonging in a world shaped by war and change.
