We are keen to ensure that you receive the next topic in this Series, along with a list of the most important journals, as soon as possible. Recent events have once again reminded us that the world continues to face new conflicts. While we do not know how many of you may have been inspired by them to choose a Thesis topic related to security or conflict studies, we are aware that this subject is particularly relevant at present.
The following is a list of journals focusing on security, defence, armed conflicts, and their consequences. And remember, this is only a fraction of the academic journals devoted to these topics.

An academic journal dedicated to research on contemporary defence and new forms of warfare, from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. The journal aims to analyse the ways in which armed forces address conceptual, strategic, and operational challenges (Taylor & Francis).
European Security
The journal focuses on security and geopolitical issues in Europe and around the world. Its aim is to analyse policies and developments within European institutions and Member States, their relations with neighbours in Europe and beyond, as well as their relations with the rest of the world. It covers topics such as conflict prevention, peacekeeping, conflict resolution and crisis management as responses to regional insecurity (Taylor & Francis).
Journal of Conflict
& Security Law
Covers the entire spectrum of international law relating to armed conflicts – from the pre-conflict phase, when issues such as arms control, disarmament and conflict prevention are addressed, through to the outbreak of armed conflict and discussions on the legality of the use of force (Oxford).
The Journal of Slavic Military Studies
Examines all aspects of military affairs in the Slavic countries of Central and Eastern Europe within a historical and geopolitical context (Taylor & Francis).
The Military Balance
It is an essential annual source of information for those involved in shaping security policy, as well as for analysis and research in this field. It provides an analysis of individual regions in terms of key military and economic developments that influence defence and security policy, as well as the trade in arms and other military equipment (Taylor & Francis).
Revue internationale et stratégique
It addresses issues of international relations and strategic action in relation to current events. It frequently analyses the multifaceted circumstances at the interface between the civilian and military spheres. Published by L’Institut de relations internationales et stratégiques, one of France’s leading think tanks specialising in geopolitical and strategic issues (IRIS).
The RUSI Journal
A flagship publication for those exploring the subject of wars and conflicts, as well as British and international defence and security policy and military history (Taylor & Francis).
